1. Scope
This policy describes the My NextTrain iOS app and its marketing and support website. The app helps you find departures, estimate when to leave, and follow a journey. Apple, transit agencies, map providers, analytics providers, and the website host also process information under their own policies.
2. Location and journey information
With your permission, the app uses location to identify nearby stations, estimate travel time, and follow progress on a tracked journey. Tracking can use more precise location and continue in the background. The app requests background location in the context of journey tracking. You can change location access, including precise location and background access, in iOS Settings. Restricting access can affect nearby-station selection, travel estimates, journey progress, and alerts.
Walking directions are requested through Apple MapKit using a start coordinate and destination coordinate. Map displays and directions involve Apple services. The reviewed analytics events include selected origin and destination station names; they do not explicitly attach raw GPS coordinates. This is not a claim that location never leaves your device: directions requests and provider processing must also be considered.
3. Saved preferences and app data
My NextTrain saves preferences on your device, including your saved route, selected transit system, favorite stations, walking pace, boarding buffer, appearance, commute mode, and other settings. The app also downloads and stores transit schedules and maintains local caches, including track-history data used for predictions. A departure snapshot containing route names and upcoming trip details is shared with the app’s widget extension using an Apple App Group.
Saving preferences on your device does not mean that all information stays on your device. Certain usage events and settings changes are also sent to Mixpanel, as described below.
Live Activities and notifications can display journey details on your Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. Consider your device’s notification and Lock Screen privacy settings if other people can see your screen.
4. Usage analytics
We use Mixpanel to understand how My NextTrain is used and identify technical problems. The app sends analytics events about launches, selected transit systems, origin and destination station names, transport modes, reminder departure times, trip-result counts, live-data availability, settings changes, permission outcomes, schedule and trip errors, Siri use, journey tracking, and subscription or restore outcomes.
The Mixpanel SDK has automatic event tracking enabled. Mixpanel may also process identifiers, device and app metadata, and network information, depending on the SDK’s behavior and the configuration used for My NextTrain. Analytics data is sent to and stored by Mixpanel; it is not limited to storage on your device.
The app does not currently include an in-app analytics opt-out control. Turning off location or notifications does not turn off analytics. See Mixpanel’s privacy policy for information about the provider.
5. Transit data and service providers
The app downloads schedules and requests live transit information from agency feeds and other configured feed providers. NJ Transit requests can pass through a Cloudflare-hosted proxy operated for the app. PATH live data uses a community feed bridge; NYC subway access uses MTA feeds. Requests to internet services expose network information such as an IP address to the service handling them. Our Cloudflare transit proxy has request and diagnostic logging enabled. Section 9 explains the verified retention period for Workers Logs. Other transit data providers may apply their own logging and retention practices.
Apple supplies location services, MapKit, Siri/App Intents, notifications, Live Activities, widgets, and StoreKit purchase services. Their operation depends on your device settings and Apple’s policies. See Apple’s privacy information and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
My NextTrain offers an annual subscription with a 7-day free trial, then $1.99 per year, or lifetime access for a one-time payment of $4.99. The annual subscription renews automatically unless canceled; lifetime access does not renew. Trial eligibility, pricing, and purchase terms are shown before purchasing. Subscriptions and purchase restoration are handled through Apple StoreKit. For annual subscriptions, the app checks verified subscription entitlements and caches an expiry date locally to determine access. App analytics records subscription and restore outcomes. Payment processing is handled by Apple; the reviewed app flow does not request your payment card details. Apple’s purchase terms and account settings govern subscription management.
7. Contact and support
When you email albert.c.lee+mynexttrain@gmail.com, your message and sender information are processed through the support mailbox and email providers so the operator can respond. Include only information needed to explain your request. Avoid sending passwords, payment details, or unnecessary precise location information.
8. Website cookies and analytics
The supplied website code does not add tracking scripts, cookies, advertising tools, forms, or browser storage. Its optional script only improves navigation and updates the displayed year. Hosting on Squarespace can introduce host-level cookies, analytics, logs, integrations, and consent controls independently of this code. External links open services with their own policies.
See Squarespace’s privacy policy.
9. Retention and deletion
Preferences and app data on your device. Saved preferences remain on your device while they are stored in the app. You can change available preferences in the app. Downloaded schedules, departure snapshots, and caches are subject to the app’s storage and refresh behavior. Device backups are governed separately by your backup settings and provider.
Mixpanel analytics events. Analytics events sent to Mixpanel are normally retained for two years from the event date, after which Mixpanel automatically deletes them under the standard retention policy that applies to our project. See Mixpanel’s data retention policy.
Cloudflare transit-proxy logs. Request and diagnostic logging is enabled for our NJ Transit proxy. Logs stored in Cloudflare Workers Logs are retained for up to three days on our current Free plan. This period applies to Workers Logs; it is not a claim that all Cloudflare operational or security records are deleted within three days. See Cloudflare’s Workers Logs documentation.
Other records. Website analytics and logs, support correspondence, and backups are separate from the periods above. Their retention depends on the relevant hosting, email, and backup services and how those records are managed. The two-year and three-day periods do not apply to all information described in this policy.
Removing the app does not automatically delete information already sent to Mixpanel or other providers, device backups, or support correspondence. For questions about retained information or to request deletion, email albert.c.lee+mynexttrain@gmail.com. We will review your request and take appropriate action as required by applicable law.
10. Your choices and privacy requests
You can manage location, notifications, Live Activities, and background activity through iOS Settings, and adjust available preferences within the app. Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection, and to complain to a privacy regulator. Contact albert.c.lee+mynexttrain@gmail.com to make a request. The operator may need proportionate information to verify and locate relevant records.
11. International processing and security
Third-party processing may occur in countries other than your own, depending on provider settings and infrastructure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
12. Children’s information
My NextTrain is a general-audience transit app and is not directed to children under 13.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the app or website, please contact albert.c.lee+mynexttrain@gmail.com. We will review your request and take appropriate action, including deleting information where required by applicable law.
13. Changes and contact
The operator will update this policy when information practices change and revise the effective date. Additional notice will be provided when required by applicable law. Questions may be sent to albert.c.lee+mynexttrain@gmail.com.
